Convinced my family to try deep dish at least once in Chicago

Didn't think of it until we were at the airport

And only bc I saw Uno was here

Deductions for the host/tour guide fail, points for effort?

Only just realized, while finally watching Thor at [livejournal.com profile] musicksempire's, that Magneto and Loki are played by different actors. All this time I thought they were both Michael Fassbender, and that it was cool he played both. I DON'T KNOW OKAY. D:
slumber: (yikes again!)
In my hurry to get to the shower this morning I picked up one of those LUSH products lying around my room thinking it was soap--it was not, it was a shimmy shimmy massage bar--and now I am LEGIT sparkling.

  • Hosted my first ~dinner party~ today, ahahaha, and besides a mostly empty bookcase toppling over when it was nudged by one of the guests, and the smoke alarm going off because I left the pizza in the oven too long, it went pretty well. My carbonara thingy was a little too dry by the time people started arriving, and I don't think we had enough soda (but too much booze :|) buuuuut my cake was a hit and I ended up giving all of it away by the end of the night but that's okay. Now I know how to make it! (And properly this time.) \o/

  • I woke up this morning to find out about a freak typhoon that hit the Philippines-- two cities in particular that had whole subdivisions and whatnot submerged under water. Called my parents but they were already asleep, which at least meant they were safe. At dinner tonight my parents called back to let me know what was going on; the worst that happened was they weren't able to go to my grandmother's 80th birthday and my brother had to sleep at his campus overnight because they were sort of stranded there. But otherwise everybody's fine.

  • I tried getting into Friday Night Lights once, a long time ago, but somehow the beginning of the first ep dragged on too long for me to bother with. Anyway, I took to watching it again, and it's really pretty compelling stuff. Sometimes it gets overly dramatic but really, good stuff. I wish I knew this during the summer, when there were like ZERO shows on, though. Now I have to squeeze it in between Desperate Housewives and Gossip Girl and Merlin and House and HIMYM and Glee and hockey and fantasy too, and RPing and so on and so forth. Never been so glad to no longer be a student than now.
slumber: (house of awesome)
So I totally went to Hulu to look for something funny to watch and ended up with Zombie Girl. It's a documentary about a 12-year-old girl called Emily Hagins who was making a zombie feature film.

It's pretty cool, actually; the movie was finished, and she was 13 when it premiered in Austin, TX. She is now in post-production for her second movie, The Retelling.

She also just learned to drive a car, probably, which I still haven't learned to do, and I'm nearly 23. :|

Anyway, I ordered a DVD of the movie she made (Pathogen-- and her website sucks, idk why she doesn't just use Wordpress or something to straighten it out) out of curiosity and some small desire to support her. I mean. I don't even know if the movie sucks or not-- it's the novelty of a kid going through the whole process (writing, directing, producing and editing) a film, really.

I kinda like knowing awesome things like this happen.

A little over a year of living at my apartment and I've only just now figured out exactly how close I live to the gorgeous lakefront (and park, and Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium, and Field Museum). People, it is walking distance! And in the summer it is absolutely gorgeous. Sobbing, how did I completely miss this??

Sometime this week I will probably take a walk (or a jog! LOL) around and take pictures, weather-permitting, or something. I need to picspam this because next summer, if things fall into place (or David Bolland onto my lap, who knows), I might end up closer to the United Center.

And then next weekend, before San Fran, we're doing a staycation-type thing-- bought a City Pass already-- and act like tourists in Chicago. (Have you seen the glass ledge on the Sears Tower? Fuck, I am all over that like white on rice!)

Summer in Chicago, I have missed you!
slumber: (why do i adore you)
Ahahahahahahaaaaaaaa look. Writing. I forgot to post it here, whoops, but god, it's been a while. :| The last fic I wrote was, what, 2007? It wasn't even for Harry Potter. I have failed so much in fandom. D:

Title: Never the Straight and Narrow
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Draco/Astoria, Draco/Pansy
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: ~1000
Summary: The problem with Slytherins was that they never did anything in a straightforward manner.
Additional Notes: Muchos gracias to [livejournal.com profile] ccharlotte for the beta. Written for the [livejournal.com profile] hp_unfaithful's Fabulous No-Pressure Laissez-Faire Challenge. Prompt: "Why didn't you just ask her to marry you instead?"

( If they wanted to win a Quidditch game, they had to take out the other team's Seeker. )

Concrit would be so welcome, as I am rusty. ♥

PS. Is there, like, an LJ comm for Slytherin-based fics? Because I know one for Ravenclaws, but there are no Ravenclaws in this fic. :|
slumber: (god has a sense of humour)

i cut my finger on a can of soup (campbell settlement, here i come!) and had to get stitches in the ER in the middle of the night, in my flaming pink hello kitty pajamas, and now my finger is all dressed up so i either look like i'm perpetually giving someone the finger OR i bought the newest attachable toy from babeland.

happy chinese new year, folks.

Fill in the blank:

I always tell ________.

Explanation behind cut )

In other news, I saw Wicked for the third time today, except now I was sat in the front row. A little to the right. Fantastic view of nostrils and everything.

Man, it would be SO amazing if the Fiyero hadn't been so clearly gay, but I guess it also works because Elphaba and Glinda had so much more chemistry anyway.

I can't be the only one to think that, right? :|

HOW have I been updating DAILY?
slumber: (dorky)
Ooh, Livejournal, you have a Halloween-y theme going on.

Somehow in the middle of my hell week I thought it would be a good idea to--guess what--fly to New York for the weekend. Essentially I:

1. Am now behind on a couple of Pretty Important Project Deadlines
2. Deprived of Decent Sleep
3. Perhaps way in over my head (But that's because of the 20-hour-a-week 7.50-an-hour part time job I took on last week. WHAT WAS I THINKING.)

But it's worth it, I suppose, because:

1. I met up with a friend from college back home and we got drunk on $5 worth of open bars. And peed in the apple center and discussed Making Money Via Selling iPhones for a huge margin back in the Philippines, where they're selling for double the price like hotcakes.
2. Spring Awakening. Mad, mad, mad awesome musical. (And on that note, does anybody have the whole soundtrack? Upload it for me please?)
3. One day I will have one more story to tell my grandchildren, and then I will laugh about it and give them my advice in hindsight so they know what to do next time. :|
slumber: (GA: not boring at all)
Since this entry I feel like I can say nothing else that is more interesting or more amusing, so I'll go for the opposite and bore you to tears. See my icon be ironic. Hahaha.

  • I got a part time job starting yesterday and consequently overslept for it.
  • I have got a major oral and written presentation due next Tuesday and even though it's group work, I'm essentially micromanaging it and I haven't written anything for the paper yet.
  • I will be out of town on the one weekened before the project. Shall be in New York from Friday to Sunday.
  • I have 45 minutes until the bus to the downtown campus arrives, and instead of being productive I am contemplating catching up on Heroes. (I probably won't, but I'll likely not be productive either.)
  • I still need to do my laundry tonight when I get back home at like, 10pm. Fun.

On the bright side:

  • I had another presentation/homework/project due on Monday which required research, but thankfully the research topic overlapped with what I was already doing for Tuesday, so yesterday I just sent my bits to my groupmates.
  • I will have money to pay for the swanky ivory coat I ordered. :|
  • The quarter will soon be over.

QUESTION: If the Harry Potter series were real, and somewhere in an alley between a bookstore and an audio store Diagon Alley bustles to life, and-- wait, hang on.

Which BNF do you think will most likely fit in with the world of Harry Potter and why? :|

Yes, of course this question is important. :| OH MY GOD I THINK I KNOW WHO. *ponders*
slumber: (Default)
July is ONLY the most important month for any Harry Potter fan, I'm sure, and accordingly, [livejournal.com profile] miss_charmed, [livejournal.com profile] draconianangel, and I planned to at least get together and squee over OotP in Imax (even if we can't do it on Opening Day). Every good fan should know how early one must be in reserving seats, but no, not us. :|

paraphrased from text messages received and sent:
[livejournal.com profile] miss_charmed: Evyyy they have seats sat and sun but 1st row only, is that OK? The girl says we'd be looking way up. That's the only one available this weekend.
[livejournal.com profile] miss_charmed: So many people are reserving here... wah, we should have planned before so I could have reserved earlier. Shall I? Or next weekend instead?
[livejournal.com profile] slumber: Next weekend, I think.. At least we'd have seen it anyway. Haha we are such lousy fans. :P
[livejournal.com profile] miss_charmed: I know, right? July 21's ok? Fourth row's the only one available, unless you're ok with 11pm? Or July 22, 11am and 8pm OR July 20, 11pm... Wah this is stressful!
[livejournal.com profile] slumber: 21's good, is that still at 11am? As long as we don't end up too late, haha.
[livejournal.com profile] miss_charmed: Yup, it's still near the screen. I'll pay for it now? It might disappear.
[livejournal.com profile] slumber: Okay. :P
[livejournal.com profile] miss_charmed: Okay done, July 21 11am!
[livejournal.com profile] slumber: Hehe, alright! :P
[livejournal.com profile] miss_charmed: OMG WTF THAT'S DEATHLY HOLLOWS DAY!!
[livejournal.com profile] miss_charmed: OMG WTF THAT'S DEATHLY HOLLOWS DAY!!

Kim sorted it out, in the end, but I feel like we deserve some sort of flogging for forgetting Very Important Dates in HP Fandom History. :| Although, thank you SO much for reserving for us, Kim. *hugs* And Pauuuuuu, you don't mind July 22 at 8pm, do you? :|

1. I am home, which in itself isn't bad, but it is so freakin' hot and oh, oh, GIVE ME COLD WEATHER BACK. (My room's nice and airconditioned, though.)

2. I accidentally deleted my photos from Amsterdam. D: (Well. There were only around five of them, so I suppose it wasn't TOO big a deal, but. That was Anne Frank's house and the Homomonument! D:)

3. Why are there no Doctor Who uploads yet? DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD:
slumber: (House: don't push till it breaks)
I never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Right, so. In the interest of worldwide social phenomena, as [livejournal.com profile] mijan wondered about in her last entry, I would like to know just how many people are having bad days today (Or, well, in the last few days, at least, just most of them culminating today). As I'm basically from the future, let me start with me and my friends:

  • Moi: Reformatted my laptop, found out the net still refused to work, spent money on a wireless router, wasted the whole evening configuring everything and re-installing all my old programs, and as I was in the middle of writing a paper due that day, the power went out. Helpless, I napped for two hours, woke up to find the power back on, finished the paper and began working on the other, also due that day. And yes, the power went out again. I finished the paper at school, looked for a place to print it, and found I saved it wrongly, because MS Word 2007 files need to be saved as MS 97-03 docs in order for them to be opened by 97-03 versions. I also left my cellphone at home today.==

  • L: Running for Vice Chair of the whole student government, found out today she had to pull in 600 more votes in order to win. She's a good girl, but she's in the wrong party. There IS no right party.

  • N: Her brother stole the family Pajero and eloped. Again. With his depressive girlfriend. Two months before graduating high school.

  • J: Jogs, plays frisbee, climbs walls. Last Tuesday she caught a cold, yesterday she lost her voice, and today she sprained her ankle. While walking down the stairs.

There's more than that, but I don't feel right discussing everything here. In any case, you see the point. :|

SO TELL ME. How has your day (or anyone else you know, for that matter) sucked? Usually I hate being so negative, but. Let's make a list. :| (A list DOES exist, right? The universe IS doing this to more than just the people I know? :|)
slumber: (House: don't push till it breaks)
For those who may be wondering (AA, particularly, I am SO sorry :\), I took a few days off to study for the GMAT, came back Wednesday to find my internet completely wonked out. It would let me in a few minutes and then stop receiving anything completely again afterward. So I've bought dial-up in the meantime and that, while dying out on me every three minutes thirty seconds, at least it reconnects again.

But barely, now, and it's so temperamental it sucks.

And I cannot even ask to use my brother's laptop, because I called him a spoiled brat the other day. (He is.)

Let's hope this is just a virus like the tech guy said and I can heal it with the outdated version of AVG that I have. :\
