A Question

I joined a holiday card exchange community and one of the occasions we're asked to write cards about is the Winter Solstice, or Yule.

And I have no idea what sort of greetings are used for it. :| (On that note, coming from a country with primarily one religion in one area and a different one in another, I don't actually know much about Jews either.) The rest (like dates and stuff) I'm sure I can google, but if any of you do know more about this please to be telling me any special rituals or events regarding Winter Solstice?
The Christmas Card Thingy

Guys, I've already bought the cards, but I realised it would be SO much cooler if I did it another way, as inspired by the comm I previously mentioned.

If you trust me not to stalk you, please do leave me your address in a comment (I'm screening them, don't worry), along with characters you'd want to receive christmas card/greetings from, and I shall attempt to be in character for you. :| or something. maybe i'll just send you regular christmas cards. :| but you know. in case this is a good idea. :D (I DO have a seal that I've been dying to use since I bought it in Denmark, if I can only find it now. :|)

Also, my address can be found here. I think it's been arbitrarily filtered so if you can't see it but want to send me a card as well then comment and I'll add you to the filter. (S'the problem with those things--you set them up once and then forget to add people to them. :|)

Solstice as in the non-sectarian, non-religious bit, or Solstice/Yule as in the mainstream neopagan/mainstream wiccan holiday?

I just got Yule/Winter Solstice written down in my assignment, so. I'm not actually sure. :| I'm thinking wiccan though.

And yes, I am. :P I'm applying to UChicago for med school, though, among others. :P (Although they rejected me for undergrad, so I don't know...XD)

Ooh, cool. :D Northwestern has a medical school too, doesn't it? That's my dream school for an MBA, haha. I love this city, apparently. :| (Personally I think grad applications have more valid criteria for picking students, and I am betting your GPA and your MCAT grades would factor in a lot, so. Just ace those, and I'm sure you will anyway. :P)

Winter Solstice as in, like, a pagan/Wiccan/etc context? Or in some other context? Because, um. It can get really detailed and stuff. Signing off with Blesséd Be is generally something to do, regardless. If need be, I could probably answer a number of questions concerning Winter Solstice/Yule and/or Hanukkah-centric things (the same goes for the religions involved), if no one else has so far.

Also! I love sending cards. Um. When I remember to stamp&address the envelopes and get them out into the mail, that is. :| So, sure, add me to that filter. (would you prefer Christmas, or generic Happy December/Winter Holidays? I'm assuming from this post you wouldn't want a Hanukkah or Yule card :P)

haha omg. I once spent a very snowy month reading about fifty books on the subject. ummmm. I'll write you a huge email or something tomorrow once I, like, manage to remember some of it. (Culturally, yes, though I'm not so great with the bit where I'm supposed to go to synagogue and actively participate on days that aren't Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (or the bar/bat mitzvahs of friends, back in middle school) (and even that's kind of. rare. :|). I'm Jewish like Allegra Maud Goldman's parents were Jewish, if you've read that book.)
