If you've been living under a rock, you should probably know that LJ has laid off a lot of people, and basically, people are either saying it's the end of LJ or that people are just getting spooked all over again.

The funny thing is, it's actually GJ that bit the dust. :|

Well, whatever, I would rather just make sure I've got my LJ backed up properly. So I remembered my password for insanejournal (username, by the by, is also

slumber, which is also my handle in journalfen), and now I am shopping around for a good back-up program. I'm using a Mac, and I'd prefer it if the program also imported comments from the entries.

Flist, any good ideas/suggestions?

ETA: I have started friending some of you on IJ, which I did oh-so-systematically by friending one person I knew in IJ, and from that person's flist, looking at who else I knew, and from there, well, you get it. :| Haven't backed my LJ up there yet, but yes. You may also leave your IJ/JF username here and I'll get to friending.

I'm not sure if works with Macs, but LJArchive worked well for me -- it's easy to navigate entries and comments. :)

I used this, LJ Migrate (Mac friendly). It won't transfer the comments to IJ, but it will copy them to your computer.

I haven't done this either. I deleted all my GJ bookmarks today. I didn't know there was a version that worked well for macs! Thanks!

Hopefully LJ is being truthful with us that they are just reorganizing and not going anywhere. But we know not to trust them completely!

I hate that GJ is gone. I played in an RPG there that meant a lot to me. Wah.

I thought I saw a couple of resources for LJ-back-up-and-exporting but I wasn't sure if they would have been applicable to Macs. I figured since a lot of my flisters were Mac users, someone ought to know what to do. :P

And really, if LJ DOES go down the drain, I hope they at least give us notice so we can all back up our stuff.

Yes, a very sensible idea indeed! And I might also save all my memorified fics into a word doc or something, though I have hundreds and it will be kind of annoying. But it's taken me years to collect all those awesome fics, so I guess I should!

I actually never ended up logging into that IJ account to change the password, and I haven't actually touched the account since. *facepalms* When I never received the email IJ was supposed to give me I figured it must have gone to you, but thank goodness I was able to find the password in GChat archives, lol. So I've changed it. :| Sorry for the confusion. :|

i liked doing that, too. justin is all gone forever now. :( :( also, now there is no record of what we devoted an entire two years worth of spare time to, so it just looks like we did nothing at all when in actuality we wrote 1000s of words worth of story. boo.
