Halfblood Prince

Can I just reiterate my absolute adoration for Harry/Luna? I think they're fantastic together. Harry's so fucked up and Luna just gets that, same way that Harry's been able to figure out her quirks and just sort of roll with her oddities. (Doesn't help that the H/G scenes just look so FORCED.)

I've never read any Harry/Luna fics though. Problem is that Luna is such a difficult character to write. Anybody have any recs? I might go through the [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom tags.

PS. I love this movie. It's somehow lighthearted and dark all at once. I forgot how many EMO!Draco scenes existed here--he's always brooding in a corner or something--and UNF, that scene with Narcissa and Bellatrix in Snape's house! And yet at the same time it's like Harry, Hermione and Ron all discovered they've got hormones. Which is like. ABSOLUTELY the worst time to get them, arc-wise, but whatever.

PPS. And Blaise is quite fit. I couldn't be happier with that casting, truth be told.

PPPS. Who are those twin Slytherin girls? They're creeping me the fuck out. ETA: Mystery solved! According to [livejournal.com profile] bitchet, they're the mysterious Carrow twins. They look like they were cast for the movie specifically, and they even have Harry Potter wiki pages.

The creepy Slytherin twins crack me up -- they're so ridiculous :)) I like to think of them as Daphne and Astoria Greengrass :))

I am also watching Half-Blood Prince right now. Love, love, LOVE this movie.

If you come across any good Harry/Luna, do post links. I also like Ron/Luna.

I'd go with that too if Astoria weren't two years younger and cast as Tom Felton's real life gf in the last movie. :P

It's on crack. Like. No other explanation. It swings wildly from one end of the spectrum to the other in minutes.

I've downloaded [livejournal.com profile] snegurochka_lee's A Life So Very Much Less Ordinary, which I've heard great things about, but I'd love to ready short stuff too.

whaaaaaaaat.

re astoria's casting.

LOOK.

I'm not a fan of the poofy hair but she looks close enough to Blair Waldorf to please me. :| :D

I never got Harry/Luna tbh. In the movies I feel like Harry doesn't have romantic chemistry with anyone (except Tonks in OOTP weirdly enough) he didn't have it with Cho, he didn't have it with Emma in DH, and he doesn't have it with Bonnie even though I think she really tries. And in the books, he doesn't seem to get Luna beyond recognizing her loneliness.

That said, isn't looneylion the name of the Harry/Luna comm?

Who are those twin Slytherin girls? They're creeping me the fuck out.

The mysterious Carrow twins.

It's probably got to do with the acting ranges of everyone--Natalia Tena was all winky and flirty with Harry in OotP, Emma Watson's got her eyebrows doing all her acting for her, and Bonnie Wright seemed to have confused "Ginny" with "piece of cardboard".

And in the books, he doesn't seem to get Luna beyond recognizing her loneliness.

I think that's where it starts sometimes. :P But that's just me.

Ooh. Flora and Hestia. I'm surprised they actually got names!

I ship Harry/Luna in the films. I could probably ship them in the books, too, except for where my unexplainable urge to conform to canon comes into play. I used to ship Neville/Ginny and Harry/Luna, though.

I HATE Ginny in the films; she's so boring and basically feels like a piece of talking cardboard. No offense to Bonnie Wright, but she's a terrible actress.

I love Draco and Blaise (especially Blaise) in HBP. I don't remember the creepy Slytherin girls, but it's been a few years since I've watched it.

[identity profile] slumber.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't mind if Neville/Ginny happened either, though only because neither character interests me all that much. :P

Bahaha, cardboard sounds about right--I said the same thing above too. :D The problem with the movies (and the books too, to a certain extent) is that they didn't really develop that well--the movie could have added more, but they were perfectly content to get Steve Kloves hinting at H/Hr the entire time instead.

Man, Draco has so much ANGST. He breaks my heart. Apparently the girls are the Carrow twins (no known connection to the adult Carrows though). I never knew that.

I've just seen DH2, so I really welcome this conversation. HBP is my favourite book - I think it's incredibly balanced, despite the info-dumping and random hormonal outbursts that could have marred it; the movie is pretty good, too.

Harry/Luna has always made more sense to me. Too bad JKR clearly didn't think so...

(As a twin myself) I found the Carrow twins terribly amusing :D Blaise had a great presence, as did the new Pansy. Anyway, just wanted to say I agree on a lot of this, lol.

Also? I hope this will spark people into talking HP again - I could do it for another decade, easily.

Damn you Australia! :P

She just could have done a better job with H/G, I guess? It just feels forced in general. :\

I would love to start discussing HP again! I'm waiting til I'm done with the movie (not for another couple of DAYS, HOW did you see it so quickly??) but can't wait!

Hell yes to Harry/Luna! In the books I was leaning more toward Ron/Luna, but in the movies her and Harry are just so spot on together. The actress who played her... I can't remember her name... but she did such a brilliant job, I think. Movie!Luna had this air of tranquility about her that sort of gave weight to her oddities, if that makes sense. She could so easily have been overplayed and hammed up.

LOL, emo!Draco! He should just quit the wizarding world and become a folk singer, I think.

[identity profile] slumber.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Evanna Lynch! :D And I love Luna, I don't know why exactly. She's HARD to write and I've never even tried, but. She's great.

Folk singer :|

[identity profile] ant-power.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes!! I've never tried to write her either, I don't think. And she served a great function in the story as well. And honestly, from book 1 I was a H/G shipper, but when it actually happened it was so wrong that I'm happy just to ignore it.

He would be an awesome folk singer. He could write angsty emo folk songs about the unfairness of stuff. And wear black turtlenecks.

[identity profile] slumber.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah the idea of H/G isn't bad either, I'd ship it since I'm not otherwise invested in what happens to Harry as much as others, but oh wells. :P

And then fish when he couldn't be bothered with the world? :| :D

Black turtlenecks would look FIIIIIIIINE on him.

also throwing my name in for the harry/luna shipping, for all the reasons you mention!
