Tossing Fandom Idea Around
How does an online fandom fanzine sound? Don't ask me how I came up with the idea, because it's a long story and I'm not particularly keen on telling it, but it hit me last night that I don't think such a thing exists and why, it could actually happen.
I was thinking something like an online magazine, not like TLC or HPANA or Mugglenet, which bring news, mainly. Those are like The Daily Prophet of the HP Fandom. Not like fandom_wank or fandom_quibbler either, as those are more of Quibbler material. More like the fandom version of Witch Weekley, I'd say. (The name I've come up with is actually Muggle Monthly, because I am so original. *rolls eyes*)
We could put in featured stuff every month, focusing on those that aren't so mainstream. Like, every month (or "issue") there could be a featured Ship, het and slash, including its history, the best fics written about it, the shippers, communities for those shippers, and so on. There could be a feature on new fansites, interviews with fic writers and fanartists, maybe, fic reviews (like the movie reviews section, only with fics), icons sites, features on resources for writing and webdesign and graphic designs maybe, a focus on any fan activity going on, like RPGs and whatnot. There could be essays given by contributors on certain aspects on the fandom, like say, fandom shipping or fandom theories, and maybe character sketches for minor characters in the books. And like in magazines, there could be various quizzes for fans to take. Maybe a Help column for fandom questions. Maybe even a more extensive look into JKR's world, like a monthly column featuring the kinds of magic she talks of, or the creatures that appear in HP.
Basically, it's a place for fans to, I don't know, get more connected to the fandom, I guess, by being exposed to different sides of it. How well do you think the idea will be received, though?
Of course, this is all just in my head for now. I'm not entirely sure where I'm headed with this idea. I mean, this would need a whole lot of monthly columnists, editors, contributors, webspace, and monthly updating. *mulling* I'd want to do this, but hmm. Seems like plenty of work. *stupid summers always give me ideas that require plenty of work*
Yeah, so. Just tossing the idea around. What do you guys think?

I'ld love to help out here and there (well, I'd love to help out a lot more, but I know I can't keep to a strong outside committment in my final year of high school), if you need it!

WOW!
Well, let me start. I believe this is a great idea. I really think we could work this out. We could have information about the fandom. About our asumptions, what we know to be a fact, and what we are expecting. We could have editorials, character analisis, fan art, fan fiction, everything to help the online new commers and veteran fans know where we stand.
We should really set up a chat with everyone that would like to participate and take notes, put out ideas as to where we would take this project.
I would love to contribute, be it by writing, editing, drawing art, or whatever I'm needed for. I truly think this is an amazing idea and would be more than glad to make it happen.
Do e-mail me and tell me if this is something that will go further. I'm truly excited and would love to help out in any way possible.
