Tossing Fandom Idea Around

How does an online fandom fanzine sound? Don't ask me how I came up with the idea, because it's a long story and I'm not particularly keen on telling it, but it hit me last night that I don't think such a thing exists and why, it could actually happen.

I was thinking something like an online magazine, not like TLC or HPANA or Mugglenet, which bring news, mainly. Those are like The Daily Prophet of the HP Fandom. Not like fandom_wank or fandom_quibbler either, as those are more of Quibbler material. More like the fandom version of Witch Weekley, I'd say. (The name I've come up with is actually Muggle Monthly, because I am so original. *rolls eyes*)

We could put in featured stuff every month, focusing on those that aren't so mainstream. Like, every month (or "issue") there could be a featured Ship, het and slash, including its history, the best fics written about it, the shippers, communities for those shippers, and so on. There could be a feature on new fansites, interviews with fic writers and fanartists, maybe, fic reviews (like the movie reviews section, only with fics), icons sites, features on resources for writing and webdesign and graphic designs maybe, a focus on any fan activity going on, like RPGs and whatnot. There could be essays given by contributors on certain aspects on the fandom, like say, fandom shipping or fandom theories, and maybe character sketches for minor characters in the books. And like in magazines, there could be various quizzes for fans to take. Maybe a Help column for fandom questions. Maybe even a more extensive look into JKR's world, like a monthly column featuring the kinds of magic she talks of, or the creatures that appear in HP.

Basically, it's a place for fans to, I don't know, get more connected to the fandom, I guess, by being exposed to different sides of it. How well do you think the idea will be received, though?

Of course, this is all just in my head for now. I'm not entirely sure where I'm headed with this idea. I mean, this would need a whole lot of monthly columnists, editors, contributors, webspace, and monthly updating. *mulling* I'd want to do this, but hmm. Seems like plenty of work. *stupid summers always give me ideas that require plenty of work*

Yeah, so. Just tossing the idea around. What do you guys think?

I think that sounds great. Would it be focused only on the HP fandom? Or would it encompass others?

I'ld love to help out here and there (well, I'd love to help out a lot more, but I know I can't keep to a strong outside committment in my final year of high school), if you need it!

Just HP. (If I ever get to actually doing this and then add other fandoms in I think I just might die.) Although there could be a monthly highlight on fandoms other HP fans go to. (Like LOTR, BtVS, etc.)

*still thinking* Thanks. :)

I think that's a fantabulous idea! Wow!

[identity profile] slumber.livejournal.com 2004-03-27 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. :) But it would be more fantabulous if it didn't require work. ;P I'm a Slytherin, not a Hufflepuff!

Cool, thanks. :) I'm not entirely sure about it yet, though. I think the biggest thing I'm thinking of right now is the webspace. Haha. Cheapskate. ^_^;

I think it's a terrific idea. It does seem like plenty of work, but there's lots to be said for a labor of love...

[identity profile] slumber.livejournal.com 2004-03-27 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. *hates labor of love* Wah. Then there's also actually getting *other* people to go through the same concept of labor of love.

It's a great idea. Though it will take a large part of your time and something that needs a lot of time and effort before everything starts running. But I'd love to help. And it's a great idea for a hobby over the summer.

[identity profile] slumber.livejournal.com 2004-03-27 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd love to help? Really? If I ever really push through with this idea, I'm going to hunt you down! :D Thanks! :)

Is that a good OK or an apprehensive OK or a weirded-out OK or just really OK?

[identity profile] al-riddle.livejournal.com 2004-03-27 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
OKAY OKAY! *waits and will be useless*

WOW!

I hate AOL I had a loong post writen and it decided to log me off before I posted. It happened twice.
Well, let me start. I believe this is a great idea. I really think we could work this out. We could have information about the fandom. About our asumptions, what we know to be a fact, and what we are expecting. We could have editorials, character analisis, fan art, fan fiction, everything to help the online new commers and veteran fans know where we stand.
We should really set up a chat with everyone that would like to participate and take notes, put out ideas as to where we would take this project.
I would love to contribute, be it by writing, editing, drawing art, or whatever I'm needed for. I truly think this is an amazing idea and would be more than glad to make it happen.
Do e-mail me and tell me if this is something that will go further. I'm truly excited and would love to help out in any way possible.

Wow, thanks. :) I'm beginning to really think about this, too, and most of the time I get pretty excited about it, and some of the time I wonder what I'm getting myself into. I'm ironing out details right now, trying to see, mainly, if I can run the thing. I want to be sure that, if ever I do start asking other fans to be involved, that I will be able to get the thing running. I will definitely keep you informed, though. Thanks. :D

Love that idea.
