In an interesting development...

I logged onto Y!M just a while ago, and you know how I've always had a window that said my version of Y!M was not updated and maybe I should update it and I always click no? Well, you might not know, because I'm the only one in the world left with an unupdated version of Y!M, because something in my laptop keeps me from installing messenger services ever since I got it, and it's only a small blessing that old!Y!M was already installed.

Anyway, yes, the point.

I logged onto Y!M just a while ago, and the little pop-up window now reads, and I quote verbatim:

We strongly recommend you update your Yahoo! Messenger
as we are discontinuing support for this version.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Do you want to update now?

I'm not sure when Y!M discontinues service, but I've no idea how to install the new version because I've tried and I just can't, so this probably means bye-bye.

I call this deus ex machina.

I thought I had it when I downloaded the installer package, but then I tried installing it, over and over. No use, unfortunately, but thanks for the help.

Whatno! I forbid you from not being online anymore, dude. Try again, isn't there some sort of messenger service you can download? Have you tried everything else, MSN, AIM, ICQ and so on? And then there's the web messenger as well, so you can use that even if you don't have the actual IMing service. :(((!

Love, you can't forbid me. It's going out whether I like it or not. Nup, tried downloading MSN and AIM multiple times; there really is a problem with my laptop. I can do e-messenger.net, but it's horrifically slow and annoying.

i know AIM at least used to have this thing where you could go to their site and use the messenger service without downloading it. like, AIM express or... something. i'm not sure if they still do that though. :(

Not sure about AIM, because my main messenger is Y!M, but e-messenger.net allows something like that and I've used it on occasion. It is, however, definitely not a messenger service and I might as well carry on conversations over LJ threads or something.
