Fuuuuuuuuck. Why do I NEVER learn that cramming is not good?

Linear programming sucks, you hear? AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY. Doesn't swallow, and all that shit.

It doesn't help that I DON'T REMEMBER whether I took notes on our lecture or not. I think I must have taken notes, but oh, WHERE ARE THEY?

I don't even KNOW where I'm supposed to be putting my answers in. Erk.

I leave in two hours. Of COURSE that's not enough time.

1. Chop-Chop Lumber Inc. produces saw lumber and plywood. There are two types of saw lumber - pine and coco – and two types of plywood - hardiflex. and marine. The company has a profit contribution of P4 a board foot (BF) for pine and P6 a BF for coco. Hardiflex plywood contributes P120 per panel while marine plywood earns P150 per panel.
For the month of December, the company has 2,580 thousand BF (MBF) of pine available for either saw lumber or plywood. Similarly, 2,040 MBF of coco are available. One panel of hardiflex requires 16 BF of pine and 8 BF of coco. One panel of marine requires 12 BF of each species.
Saw lumber is restricted only by the capacity of the headrig saw. The saw can handle 400 MBF per month of any species. The plywood mill can be restricted by either the peeler or the dryer. During the month, no more than 250,000 panels of lumber may be peeled, and there are 920,000 minutes of dryer time available. Each hardiflex panel requires 4 minutes of dryer time while each marine panel requires 6 minutes of dryer time.
Market conditions limit the number of hardiflex panels sold to no more than
120,000 and the number of marine panels to no more than 100,000. Any
amounts of saw lumber can be sold.

2. During the summer break, you plan to invest your savings of P6,000 in an entrepreneurial venture. You can devote at most 600 hours to the business venture.
Two investment options are presented to you. The first option requires capital
investment of P5,000 and 400 hours of your time, while the second alternative
requires P4,000 in capital and 500 hours. Each option will generate a profit of
P4,500. You could invest in either one or both ventures. Your target is to earn
the most from your investment.

3. Pureswift Co. has experienced drastic changes in raw material prices of its chicken vienna sausage due to the bird’s flu scare. Consequently, its operations manager has undertaken a review of the proportions in which Pureswift mixes ingredients to manufacture chicken vienna sausage.
Pureswift has the following four raw material ingredients available for mixing,
with the following characteristics:

Ingredient % Protein % Fat Cost per Gram
Chicken 40 10 P 1.80
Vegetable Protein 1 20 15 0.75
Vegetable Protein 2 10 35 0.40
Vegetable Protein 3 5 40 0.15

Sausage manufacture involves meeting two key product requirements. The percentage of protein, by weight, must be at least 15%; and the percentage of fat, by weight, cannot exceed 30% (remaining weight is filler).
Formulate an LP model that would aid Pureswift in determining its most desirable mixing schedule.

ETA: It's a beautiful layout, S, and I think either [livejournal.com profile] fluzzyslippers or [livejournal.com profile] foresteyes uses a QaF mood theme. Miss you also. And the Harry/Theo on my sidebar is filler. :P

Charli, wah. Okay. Shall come back to it this afternoon. Also, you would rather look at pictures of my books than my pimples (aka Kevins), trust me. ;)

[livejournal.com profile] meemobunny, as it is still January 2 where you are, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
