I have to say. Um. I've heard of it and I even have a bunch of the songs, but.

I have NO idea what INXS is.

I know it's a contest, but. How does it work? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE???

Actually, it's Michael Hutchense. He accidentally hung himself in a hotel room while experimenting in auto-erotic breath control. I don't think anyone ever confirmed that he was on drugs at the time, but I wouldn't doubt it. And he wasn't married to Paula Yates, though they did have an affair and a daughter. It's another tale of rockstar excess leading to destruction.

As for INXS the band, their music is lots of fun and catchy and a lot of people like it. The remaining five members of the band have continued touring since Michael's death almost 10 years ago with a variety of temporary singers. But now they want to continue their careers, make new music, and sort of start over. So they put on this show with 15 unknown singers and had them perform classic and new rock songs with fans voting out a contestant every week. It was a great show - the contestants were actually good singers (some of them were really fucking great) and they just rolled right through the performances without all the fluffy backstories and interviews you see on American Idol.

Anyway, they've picked a new singer and now they're on tour promoting a new CD and the runner-up from the show is their opening act. If you like Duran Duran or The Killers or anything sort of New-Wavey with a bit of edge, then you'd probably like INXS. Their best album was KICK (released in 1988 I think) and it had several big hits including "New Sensation," "Devil Inside," "Never Tear Us Apart," and "Need You Tonight." Not that I'm a fan or anything ;)

I've got Kick and Welcome wherever you are. Thanks for pointing out the facts and the spelling. I was just running off the cuff. I don't think the other musicians should hve to end their careers because one member leaves for whatever reason. But some leave bigger shoes to fill than others e.g. Freddie Mercury.

I completely agree about the missing members - look at Nirvana. There's no way they could have continued without Kurt Cobain. Luckily for INXS, Michael didn't write most of the songs so they still have that talent and their instruments to carry them through. Unfortunately for them, though, he had an amazing and unique voice and awesome stage presence. I hope JD works out for them. I also hope I can find tickets to their show in Philadelphia for less than $150 a seat!
