Apparently by 2010 the US will no longer be the US as we know it.

Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar. Around the end of June 2010, or early July, he says, the U.S. will break into six pieces -- with Alaska reverting to Russian control.

Bah. I like being free of Chinese control, kthnx. (Well, so to speak; our economy kind of makes that contradictory.)

Because, apparently, the biggest state gets dibs on the name. Because there are no insanely large states in the Northeast and the Midwest, they get to have generic, geography-based names. :|
