wenelda, who prompted me with the summary. XD Dude. Snape/Regulus. It's surprising I managed to write this before all the other pairs that I thought I'd feel more comfortable writing, but anyway. Happy Christmas!
There'd been a fireplace.
You close your eyes and remember that it had been warm, that you'd just placed more firewood and there had been crackling when the flames licked at dry wood. It was a beautiful brick fireplace, its mantle mostly empty save for a few candleholders that stayed unlit and a portrait that hung on the wall above it.
There'd been hot cocoa.
You remember how it had burned your tongue, how you had to wait for so long until you could taste it properly, and how it had been bitter and sweet when you sipped.
You never knew how to make cocoa quite like it.
There'd been quiet.
You remember the quiet, and the game of chess that went on. You were winning the game, and you'd smirked smugly when your knight beheaded the white queen.
"Check." You declare triumphantly.
"Mate," he says, surprising you with a move from his rook. You look up, stunned, and he grinned ferally before his foot ran up your leg from under the table. Nobody else in the room full of former Housemates seemed to have heard your squeak.
There'd been Regulus, and that had been the best part of it.
