Tales From Bangkok
May. 28th, 2004 09:35 amI've been back since Tuesday night, but on Wednesday I was dragged to the Duty Free shop, yesterday I've been out fixing some stuff up and when I got back home the internet connection was bad so I just settled to watching QaF season 2 episodes 14-19. *waves Justin/Ethan flag*
So, here's a list of the more interesting things that happened in Bangkok, Thailand, while I was there.
1. The buses in Thailand are kind of double deckers, except the first level is made up like a small living room, with seats on three sides and a table in the middle. Naturally, my friends and I went for the first level seating on our way to and from this dinner we attended. Coming back from the dinner, we all got pretty bored and someone brought out playing cards, and we whiled the time with Bluff and Poker. The bus stopped at a checkpoint, because I think it went down the wrong lane, and the police officer happened to pass by the window and saw us playing cards, and then automatically assumed we were gambling, which is illegal under Thai law, so he went in, confiscated our cards, and went out. We all thought it was a joke until we realized they weren't letting the bus go, not without bribe money, that is. *rolls eyes*
2. Back here, Kill Bill Vol 2 won't be showing until August, maybe, so when I saw it was showing in Thailand, I vowed to watch it, and I did. :D I liked it well enough, but I think it could just be because I was so happy to be able to watch it in the big screen so soon. I prefer the soundtrack in the first volume, but the second volume had the story.
3. Well, no, I didn't watch any shows with flying bananas and creative ways of uncorking champagne bottles, but I did see girls dancing in bikinis by the entrances of the bars. And there were hawkers, motioning to us (me, particularly), telling us about "sexy shows" and whatever, and all this time I wondered why they were calling me, because I'm a girl and I doubt they thought I was lesbian, and even if they thought I was, sodomy is still illegal under Thai law anyway, but I saw one flyer full of half-naked males and suddenly everything made sense--they wanted me to watch male dancers, not female ones. *headdesk* I just didn't expect that many male dancers in that many bars, I guess, even if Pat Pong is a red light district.
4. I spent $150 flat, and that included survival money like cab fares and some dinners and the 500 baht I had to pay in the airport, but that also covered two skirts, five pairs of pants, three tops, three shirts, seven bags, a photo album, three books, a movie ticket, a few knick knacks for my cousins, a comic book, and fabric for my mother's skirt. I wish I were more of a shopper, because I felt I was spending too much already, when I could have bought so much more. And I swear, I've never experienced the words "Shop Til You Drop" until Bangkok. We just walked and walked and bought and bought until our feet hurt and our muscles ached, and we were in sneakers! Wah I wanna go back!
So. What's been happening in LJ and FAP while I was gone? :D
