Contrary to popular belief, the HP fandom is not a wanky place to be. It might be wankier than most other fandoms, but not THAT wanky. If you know where to go, I guess.

I am addicted to fandom. Fandom has me wrapped around her finger.

No, really. It has. I have PROOF:

1. I've limited my surfing area to a VERY concentrated place, and still it takes me hours to finish business online.

And all of it is related to fandom: LJ, RPGs, LJ, maybe FAP, LJ. Gmail and Yahoo!mail because of the fandom, too. I hardly even check my account for real life anymore, because DUDE! I see those people every day already, and even if I don't, they're just a text message away. Pfft.

And indeed, if it weren't for these places, I don't see where else I ought to spend my surfing time on. :P

I don't know what my average time online is, but I'm online every day, which is more than how much time my friends spend online.

2. I've become involved.

Involvement always means more time to commit to the fandom, and I wouldn't have committed if I didn't want to, or feel like it.

[livejournal.com profile] hd100 is the bestest drabble place, and I feel like I owe a drabble a week to it, regardless.

[livejournal.com profile] out_of_the_fire is pretty slow right now, but I love what's going on and I love that I'm in it.

[livejournal.com profile] isolation_tower is SO amazing and I am definitely happy I'm doing it. It's only been up a couple of days and already it's been cause for many gigglinginsanely!Slumber moments.

3. I've become emotionally attached.

Which is, considering me, verreh hard to do. It's kind of evil to say this, but while I love my friends in real life as well, I don't have the urge to talk to them every day. Or write them letters. Or call them up. Or miss them terribly when they're not online!!!

It may be the distance, and the fact that I'm not really taking anything for granted when it comes to my fandom friends, but really. I love you all!

And anyone who has got me saying "I love you", which while in text is easier to say than in person but which I find hard uttering to anyone (even my parents!) anyway, has to be someone I'm really attached to, right?

4. Lines have been blurred, crossed, and consequently ignored altogether. In a good way.

[livejournal.com profile] unrouen can attest to this. She knows I have this big pet peeve about how I have to keep my fandom activities completely separate from my real life activities, and recently I've seen a big blurry line between fandom life and real life. It's all the paranoia I used to carry around with me before, about strangers on the net and what they do to 13 year old girls who aren't careful, thus I must keep my real life identity a secret.

Then it turned to keeping my fandom life secret from RL friends. Then I found I couldn't keep it all in, and now they know I have this journal (but they don't know where, exactly, just that I have a second journal) and that I have friends online.

5. I think in timezone.

Friend: Hey Slumber, what time is it now?
Me: In which timezone?
Friend: Huh?
Me: You do realize time is relative, don't you? That while we're sitting here waiting for our ride home at 4pm, someone's probably eating dinner at 6pm in Australia, or just waking up at 8am in England, eating breakfast at 9am in Sweden, or maybe still asleep in 4am New York and 3am Iowa, or.
Friend: O.O I just wanted to know if the computer lab's still open!

PS. You should check out [livejournal.com profile] hd_notes. As one comment said, it's like shoebox_project!H/D. And so nobody can tell me I didn't tell them. ;P

I've got YM... Haven't tried downloading AIM, but if it's any similar to MSN, I may not be able to download it. Or something.

AIM is in no way similar to MSN except for it being shit. Try it, you might like it.
