I thought my hamster was diabetic, but I got the test results back and he's just borderline.

Ohhh, does that mean he's not going to need medication, then? (I just got a cat, and now the mention of pet illnesses freaks me out because how do I know there's something WRONG? Why did you suspect he had diabetes?)

It's very hard to give rodents medication for diabetes, the best you can do is introduce fenugreek seeds into their food, cut out as much sugar as possible, start giving them vitamins, and test them weekly. I'm testing and have changed his food and started vitamins, but I'm not giving him fenugreek unless his blood sugar peaks.

And he was acting listless and drinking a LOT (ounce of water one night, and we're talking a critter who weighs about four ounces, tops) and gained a bit of weight recently, and Campbells Dwarf Hamsters (what he is) have a pretty wicked tendancy towards diabetes due to stupid breeding in the past.

And I've discovered that, as soon as you figure out what they're like normally (personality, etc) it's not that hard to figure out if critters are feeling...off...mostly because they start acting weird, hiding, picking at their food, whatever. And after that is what vets are for. Heh.

OH I started reading Francesca Lia Block because I saw a book of her short stories at the bookstore and I remembered you talking about her (it WAS you, wasn't it?) and she's pretty funky. (Which should I read next?)

QaF is teh. If I could only figure out how to capture clips from my VCDs I can so totally vid it now. Or something, haha. And at least you've a cool emo boy. :P AND a girlfriend. And QaF. All the important things in life. ;)

My slippers pwn me. I've not been sleeping much recently. My shoe broke today so I had to walk home with only one shoe on. Am still in mourning. It was a pretty shoe.
