I'm reserving final judgment for OotP after I've read each book, seen their adaptations (except for the Philosopher's Stone, which I'd done reading by the time I got the idea), and then read HBP as well, in time for Deathly Hallows, to get a gist of what was alright in OotP and what bothered me about it, because initial feelings are basically, I can't wrap my head around the logic behind turning the longest book of them all into the shortest film.

But enough of that. I've been reading flist reviews, plenty of which have squeed and woed over certain scenes and stuff, but.

how powerful they're making Ginny? She got an exceptionally bright Patronus, for some reason. It was her spell in the Room of Requirement, during that scene when they were all taking turns casting spells, that made the mirror shatter, or something, and she was the one who cast that Protego (Was it the Protego?) that essentially turned the Department of Mysteries upside down.

Back in the FAP boards--ooh, who here remembers them? :P--I think I remember someone mentioning something about how Ginny, being the seventh daughter (of the seventh daughter, supposedly, but Molly seems to have only two older brothers whom we know) in seven (which is a guess--JKR said in several, which is clearly a few letters off) generations is Important and signifies Great Powers and perhaps An Important Role. :| Well, JKR says something about it too, over here, about more than halfway down, but here's the bit:

Does she have a larger importance; the Tom Riddle stufff, being the seventh girl —

The backstory with Ginny was, she was the first girl to arrive in the Weasley family in generations, but there's that old tradition of the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter and a seventh son of a seventh son, so that's why she's the seventh, because she is a gifted witch. I think you get hints of that, because she does some pretty impressive stuff here and there, and you'll see that again.

That was, of course, before the fourth movie came out, and a little after the sixth book was released, but still. They were actually making note of it in OotP, perhaps as some form of foreshadowing?

Oh, and while we're at it. If there's any more doubt that Harry's the last Horcrux, let me point you to Chamber of Secrets (bold mine):

"[sic] Unless I'm much mistaken, he transferred some of his own powers to you the night he gave you that scar. Not something he intended to do, I'm sure..."

"Voldemort put a bit of himself in me?" Harry said, thunderstruck.

"It certainly seems so."

From Chamber of Secrets, chapter 18, page 333 in the Scholastic paperback edition

You really can't get any more blunt than that, can you?

I remember that! I was at FAP! For liek, 3 threads, I think. :| Anyway. YEH! The mighty number 7. XD

Um. Ginny. When I saw those scenes, I was mostly 0_o because I fail at recalling important details from the book, clearly.

If there's any more doubt that Harry's the last Horcrux
I've never doubted, come to think of it. I haven't read a lot of meta, but yes, that's one very huge point.

I kept forgetting SO MANY THINGS too! Hahaha, but I noticed Ginny's extraordinary wandwork, for some reason, and pointed it out to my friend.

Hahaha, yeah, it's one of the things I was so SURE of after I put down the sixth book. "Harry's a Horcrux, oh my god."

Hehe... many smileys.

And Ginny used "Reducto". Very well, might I add. Dunno if I like her as powerful as all that, but meh... it's their film. And yes, they should have made it longer.

And Horcrux!Harry... I don't want to believe anything until I've read the book. Too many possibilities. But that would seem both plausible and probable.

I've always been so-so about Ginny, tbh, although I seem to appreciate her more in the films. Well, I lie. She can barely act in Chamber of Secrets, but in OotP her Meaningful Looks were pretty good--subtle, but unmistakably there.

I'm interested to see JKR get out of this one, considering she IS known for her red herrings.

At this point, I'm not going to assume anything about the plot. I don't have any expectations (not even proper spelling). I have my theories (especially about Neville, his parents, Mr. Malfoy, and so on), and I've stated them before, and I stand by them. We'll see what pans out. As for Harry's fate... even though I don't think it will happen... read:

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3652613/1/Shades_of_Grey

It's short, it's mine. Just an idea, mind you, but I liked it. :D

From: [identity profile] slumber.livejournal.com
This is about the only thing I've got a theory for myself, tbh, and even this I'm not too sure I'll see on the page. Feels too obvious for JKR, as I've said. :P

And ooh, I like that idea. While it may not happen exactly as it did there, you've still brought up a lot of nuances in the phrasing of the prophecy that are Very Interesting, and it actually ties in well with Lily's protection over Harry. The whole "saved by the power of love" thing sounds too fluffy for me, but if she actually did something, well, yeah.

I really can't wait for DH much longer now. :P

Date: 2007-07-15 05:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com
*grins* I liked the idea, too. And you know, I'll be REALLY disappointed if JKR uses the most mundane interpretation of her very strangely worded prophecy. Seriously, there SHOULD be more to it than "kill or be killed". The phrasing is WAY too interesting.

Basically, this had BETTER be good. :D

Date: 2007-07-15 05:05 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] slumber.livejournal.com
She's always hinted that there was more to the prophecy and that it had to be worded that way, I think, so we're sure it's not the obvious explanation, at least.

Oh, yes. I stumbled across what could be the final chapter of the book, the epilogue-type thing, and while I am exercising utmost self-control not to read it all, I did get a look at what's replaced scar for the final word in the book. I'm choosing to remain optimistic for the rest of the novel, and it reminds me, I SHOULD get back to my PoA reread now. :P

Date: 2007-07-15 07:39 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com
Well, no matter what you've read, don't share any of it with me! I figure, I've waited this long; I want to just sit down and read the book, cover-to-cover, and enjoy it without knowing what's coming. That's why I'm chosing not to expect anything, either.

And as for the meaning of the prophecy... Fiona had an interesting idea: the "other" in the phrase, "neither can live while the other survives" doesn't refer to Harry OR Voldemort, but to Neville. It might not be probable, but it's DAMNED interesting. I wonder, in the very lease, if "other" refers to someone aside from Harry or Voldemort. It would change the meaning of the whole damn thing.

If there's any more doubt that Harry's the last Horcrux

Nooooooo! DENIAL: Not just a river in Egypt, etc etc.

Tbh, despite evidence to the contrary, I can't get past the fact that if Harry = Horcrux, Dumbledore would've at least suspected and hinted at it during the pensieve scenes. Then again, this could well be wishful thinking :\ Nooooetc.

It's weird that I hate super-powerful Ginny in canon, but quite like her in the movieverse.

AIEEEEEEEEEE MASTER ILOVEYOU. /iconsquee

It could be something that Dumbledore knew but kept from Harry, I have no idea, but to be fair, JKR is known for putting red herrings alongside her plot, and this could be something she planted to mislead us from how it really all ends. Of course, like I told [livejournal.com profile] mijan, I'll be quite interested to see how she explains this away, considering how a lot of what she's said (that CoS is Very Important in laying out a LOT of the groundwork for, at least, HBP) and a lot of what we know from canon at the moment seem to point to that direction.

She's rather spunky in a not-too-obnoxious way, which is what I got off her from OotP and HBP, I think. Bonnie Wright's coming into her own, I'd say.

Date: 2007-07-14 12:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] heliopath.livejournal.com
Was that not the greatest thumbs-up in the history of everything? XD

Anyhoo, yeah, Dumbledore did say that Nagini may be a horcrux, which could've been his hint to Harry that horcruxes are not confined to inanimate objects nudgenudgecouldbeyou. But this is something else I'm trying to ignore >_>

I'm not overally fond of canon Ginny, but it's partially the fault of fandom. I didn't mind her too much whilst reading, but other people's opinions of her rudeness corrupted me rapidly. I do very much love Bonnie's Ginny though, and I think she'll be great in six and seven.

Date: 2007-07-14 01:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] slumber.livejournal.com
HAH, yes, exactly! God I loved that episode so much. And in LotTL, when he slid inside his office and started dancing--I have much love for Simm, let me tell you. :P

And there's also that part where trying to AK Harry ended up in Voldemort losing much of what made him a person--probably, that was his soul finally being split into seven parts. And, on slightly stretched speculation, it could help explain the prophecy, about one being unable to live while the other survives, and if Harry were a descendant of Gryffindor (which is another rumour that's not quite died either) then this is possibly how Voldemort could not have realised that killing him would actually suck his soul in (as he needed something of Godric's or Rowena's, I think).

But again, that's wandering into even more speculation and I'm not too confident about those things anymore. It's just the whole bit concerning Harry that I'm going to look out for, really. :| Doesn't have to mean he'll DIE, though. :|

Oh, fandom. :P She's really--she's really neutral, for me, honest-to-goodness I could never really muster up either fondness or dislike for her. In the OotP film, though, yeah. I hope Bonnie does something fantastic with Ginny, in the same way Evanna nailed Luna. :P

Date: 2007-07-14 08:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] heliopath.livejournal.com
He is made of awesome. The bit that killeded me most in LotTL was the sneaky-shimmy in his dressing gown over to gnome!Doctor in his cage, hair all dishevelled... And yes XD

if Harry were a descendant of Gryffindor

I think Jo pretty much shot that down somewhere in here. Which is a pity, I quite like where you were going with it :\ And yeah, Harry death? SO Do Not Want, which is why I don't go for the whole horcrux thing in the first place - it's nearly always accompanied by Harry Will DIE which = Noooo!

Evanna rocks beyond granite. Have you seen [livejournal.com profile] shocolate's post about meeting her in Tesco's? The girl is One of Us! Oh, the LOVE!

I love the soundtrack of that, seriously. It's so.. Master-y. :P (Although, still much love to Tennant, really. ♥ Why must we wait til Christmas again?)

Haha, I remember that too, so I'm not hanging on to that notion either. I'm sitting on the fence regarding Harry's death, to be honest--I'd not mind it, and I'd not mind if it never happened either, but I totally understand what you mean with his Horcrux-ness leading to death. (I'm sure JKR will find a way, though. I'm not SURE she's going to kill Harry--I'm scared Ron'll get axed instead. :|)

I think all of fandom probably loves her by now, and I went to read it, yes, that was positively awesome. :P Evanna's not on LJ, is she? :)) Probably wouldn't want to say.

Evanna's not on LJ, is she?

Current evidence would indicate that she is omg. Non-LJers do not specifically mention LJ in passing with other fans. Thus, I am eyeing everyone with suspicion *eyes*

Just here to add more giggling and squeeing over the Doctor Who icon love. Awesome episode. And I just wanna say, for the record, that I called "Face of Bo!" when Jack turned around and said, "What if I live for a million years?" Totally called it. :D

Duuude! Heee! Bravo, I haven't been more blindsided by a plot twist since Snape on the Tower! Though Boe!Jack was considerably more squeeworthy.

From: [identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com
Hehehehe... Boe!Jack was definitely more squee-worthy. Actually, the LOOK on the Doctor's face was PRICELESS. That was the best part of the scene. Takes a lot to surprise that man.

The thing is, I kept TRYING to say it out loud, as soon as I heard the "What if I live a million years?" line, but my girlfriend kept saying, "NO! Be quiet! You HAVE to hear this part!" And I kept trying to say, "NO! Listen, I know who that is! It's the Face of Boe!" And she kept shushing me... until I said, after the fact, "You know, I was TRYING to say that." That's when she looked at me, dumbfounded, because she hadn't figured it out until the actual statement floored her. (She saw the episode before me.) Either way, very funny, best plot twist EVER.

I'm looking at your icons now... I need some Doctor Who icons. *envies*

And yeah, I just got into Doctor Who recently. My fiancee, [livejournal.com profile] fiona_fawkes, has sucked me into it. I just caught up, actually, and now I'm going to begin watching Torchwood. *grins*

(Don't we all, haha. I would have gladly ganked the prettiest Ten icons if doing so didn't mean I had to remove ALL my icons from my paid account days. Hmm, I'm sure there's a mood theme somewhere, though. There has to be one. :P)

JKR said harry is not a horcrux in some interview or other. and to be honest, i'd be a little pissed if he were. besides, you have to go through a lot of preparation to make a horcrux, it doesn't just happen automatically, and voldemort was there that night to kill harry, not make a horcrux out of him.

Date: 2007-07-14 04:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] slumber.livejournal.com
Oh, spoilsport. >:P But I probably missed that, and hmm, I was thinking that perhaps Voldemort hadn't intended to turn Harry into the Horcrux, as Dumbledore said, only it did happen, for some reason or other. All the same, I'd like to see JKR's explanation on it, and while she did say that some of what's going to happen in DH will never be guessed by readers, I do hope she doesn't come up with an explanation that's completely out of nowhere, or that backtracks madly, or something. I love her way of laying out clues that make sense in the end, and I'm keeping up that hope for the last book, most especially.
