Shiny new shoes, long pigtailed hair.

First year.

"Excuse me, but is this seat--"

"Okay."

Old chestnut trunk, barely worn robes.

Mudblood.

"What are you reading?"

"None of your business."

Upturned nose, eyes that tried to blink back intimidated tears.

Gryffindor.

"I--well. I was just asking."

"Then don't."

"You're a bit rude, did you know?"

"So?"

"Bit pointless, don't you think?"

I pause halfway through turning the page of my book, looking at her with baleful eyes to cover up the surprise I'd felt upon hearing her words, and stop.

Beautiful coppery hair, sharp green eyes.
