Angry alpha male is shirtless a lot of the time! Also, he stalks. And glowers. And nearly everyone is shirtless at one point! The producer tried/is trying to make the show as non-heteronormative as possible (one of the popular jocks happens to be gay, and is best friends with the captain of the lacrosse team, and no one seems to give a shit. Also, he is the sanest person on the show.) and the showrunners have actively bribed the fandom by dangling the ship in front of them so even if actualfax gayness doesn't happen the relationship between show and fandom is at least of mutual admiration? LOL.
